About the exhibition
Phoebe McDonald’s work is centered on concepts of interconnectedness and impermanence, and she has an ongoing interest in the nature of light, time, space and perception. Her work often records transformation that occurs in the natural environment, or is itself transformed by changes in the natural environment. In recent bodies of work Phoebe has explored shadows and reflected colour as compositional elements. When these works are shown in natural light, their composition evolves throughout the day depending on the angle and intensity of available sunlight.
Phoebe McDonald is a Brisbane-based artist and holds a Bachelor of Photography with First Class Honours from the Queensland College of Art. She has exhibited at Spiro | Grace Art Rooms, Ryan Renshaw Gallery, Queensland Centre for Photography, Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Dell Gallery, Museum of Brisbane, Photospace Gallery at Australian National University, Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery and Gympie Art Gallery. Phoebe has been a finalist in The Churchie: National Emerging Art Exhibition, the Clayton Utz: Launch Art Award and the Toowoomba Biennial Emerging Artists Award. In 2010 she was a recipient of the Australia Council for the Arts ArtStart Grant.
