Barbara Penrose Architectural Fantasies: vertigo 2011

About the exhibition

Architectural Fantasies : vertigo is a site-specific installation. Barbara Penrose’s work is a proposition that aesthetically and conceptually values the ground plane as a field of architectural resonance. In this installation she places the Plinth as a shadowed element derived from Classical temple architecture into a context of contemporary urban and industrial relationships. Quoting details of the classical style in the Brisbane City Hall architecture, the work constructs an alternate identity through lightness and opticality.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
